Your First Apartment Checklist For Sylvania

Here’s a checklist of the basics that you should have when you move in. You might be able to bring some of these checklist items from your childhood home, but for other pieces you might need to visit IKEA or Sylvania’s local furniture warehouse. Online stores such as Amazon are always helpful. We’ll also provide you with a short list of extra items that can make living on your own a little better.

 

Sylvania First Apartment Checklist: The Bedroom

These needed household items work perfectly for a one-bedroom apartment, as you need somewhere to put your bed and clothes. If you are leasing a larger apartment, these items also can go in a guest room.

Essentials:

• Mattress

• Minimum of two good pillows

• Sheets and pillowcases

• Blanket or comforter

• Bedframe

• Armoire or dresser

• Closet hangers

Next step up:

• Footboard and headboard

• Large mirror

• Nightstand and lamp

• Collapsible laundry hamper

• Extra blankets

• TV

• Shoe rack

Sylvania First Apartment Checklist: The Family Room

Whether you refer to it as the the family room or the living room, it’s the room where you’ll spend a good amount of your time. It’s also the room where you’ll spend time with guests (although many get-togethers wind up in the kitchen).

Essentials:

• Sofa or a few comfy chairs

• Additional seating

• Coffee table

• Entertainment center or TV stand

• Electronics such as TV and audio equipment

Also nice:

• Side tables

• Additional shelving for books, DVDs, or accessories

• Accent pillows and napping blankets

• Area rug

Sylvania First Apartment Checklist: The Kitchen/Dining Area

The kitchen is easy for a new renter because most of your bigger items -- like the refrigerator, dishwasher, and oven -- come with your apartment. You only really need a table and chairs for the dining area, but we recommend being able to seat at least four people. Even if you live by yourself, it’s good to eat at the table with guests.

Essentials:

• Dining table and chairs (seats 

• Dishware included plates, glasses, and silverware (4 place settings)

• Mugs

• Can opener, spatula, kitchen scissors

• Microwave-if not provided

• A good frying pan or skillet

• A cookie sheet

• A sharp chef knife

• Pot for boiling water

• Oven mitts

Also Nice:

• Shelves or a buffet for extra dishes

• Coffee pot

• Spices, including salt and pepper

• Dish soap and scrub brush

• plastic or glass storage containers

• Potato peeler, cheese grater, and other well-used items

• A knife set with stand

• Mixing bowls and measuring cups

• Food -- It’s always helpful to move in with a fully-stocked kitchen

Sylvania First Apartment Checklist: The Bathroom

The bathroom is rather straightforward, as the shower, toilet, sinks, and medicine cabinets are already there. If you have a guest bathroom, all you really need is toilet paper, soap, and a hand towel. There are only a few essentials needed for your main or master bath but not as many as in other rooms.

Essentials:

• Toilet paper

• Hand soap

• Toothpaste, toothbrush, and other personal sundries

• Shampoo and conditioner

• Large bath and hand towels

• Shower liner, shower curtain, and hooks

• Toilet brush

Also Nice:

• Shower mat

• Over the door hooks for bathrobes and towels

• Toothbrush holder

Some necessities aren’t just for one room. Get these needed move-in items for a smooth move.

Essentials:

• Cleaning supplies and products

• Trash cans for each room

• Vacuum

• Broom and dustpan

• Laundry detergent

• Base tool set that includes a flathead screwdriver, Phillips head screwdriver, hammer, and small wrench

Also Nice:

• Wall artwork

• Desk to work at

• Small accessories

• Extra light bulbs

• Sweeper or mop

• Charging and extension cords

• Patio doormat

• Towels and bag for the apartment pool and fitness center
